Early that day I was told all the tickets for my talk were sold out // Typographic Circle that night, which made me more and more nervous, I get so anxious before a talk. Thankfully Luke, Vilma & Holly came to support me, we left the studio at 5.30pm and took a cab to the JWT offices in Knightsbridge. The room was full of screens and masses of chairs I was petrified! I am always so worried people will fall asleep. I spent ages editing the talk but still ended up with 300 images — I was asked to speak between 60mins — 90mins — 90mins meant 18 secs per image equivalent to 15 Pecha Kucha’s by one person!!! Then the room filled with people, the lights went down and I just started talking, I spoke for 92mins. Some of the audience came up to me at the end and just said ‘inspiring’. I had a couple of drinks and went home relieved and happy. Thank you to John Bateson and the Typographic Circle for asking me to talk and for the cute badges made for the audience in return for their tickets and thank you to Alan Dye, NB: Studio for kindly organising the printing for my poster, much appreciated. A very special thank you to the audience for coming to see me on a cold Thursday evening, listening so intently for so long and being so enthusiastic!
My poster has gone off to the printers, for my ‘No airs and graces’ talk at the Typographic Circle. I wanted to combine my obsession with stripes with my love of words.
‘No Airs and Graces’ many many moons ago (1987) I designed the book cover ‘Talking Horses’ for jeffrey Bernard (published by 4th Estate) and I attended the launch of book, on the top floor of ‘L’Escargot’. The place was full of young people and he came over to me and said ‘The thing about you Morag, you have no airs and graces’, at the time I was devastated, I thought I was a sophisticated and mysterious young woman and it was ruined in one single sentence from a person I respected. So I challenged him with a rather disappointed expression and he replied ‘It was a compliment!’
Posters will be available soon to purchase from the Typographic Circle. Printed on 120gsm Colorplan Pristine White, 120gsm from GS Smith.
Our model in all it’s Glory! We had a great evening at the Design Museum, Brit Insurance Design Awards last night. An huge collection of fascinating diverse things, really worth paying a visit. (more…)
Phew models are difficult to make, everything so tiny and detailed, and take so long to do and so slow! But Luke, Vilma and I persevered and we installed our model of the Power of Ten, LCC Summer shows 2010 at the Design Museum last night ready for the Brit Insurance PV tonight. Be interesting to see what people think of it. I really wanted to get across the layering of the work and so I hope it does the job! I am really excited by it so hope others will be to.
I just received in the post a copy of Interior Design magazine China, which had a good big feature on the Deptford Project train. I don’t know what it says so I hope it is complimentary, anyway the pics look great.

I was kindly given a copy of the 78 winter 2010 edition of Eye magazine by the editor John L.Walters, and as I was browsing through it, I found this review of the Supergraphics book by Unit Editions and out of all the pages in the book, my LCC signage was featured and I felt very proud. This edition of Eye has some great articles, worth buying it for a good read.
