This is a big Mamma! We were told that San Francisco has a ban on anymore new signs! I do love a big sign and these were all pretty huge even the protruding signs hang right across the street with a wide collection of decorative vintage fonts and very colourful. A Heavenly trip for me!

Supergroup are on a secret mission in San Francisco. My very dear old friend Tim got me and Luke out here and the first stop was his absolutely amazing house about 1.5 hours drive from Frisco up in the hills. Look at this breathtaking view it is to die for! The clearing at the bottom is the ocean! It was our first real sun this year and it felt exhilarating.

Yesterday the Design Museum announced the Brit Insurance Designs of the Year Nominations, and LCC ‘POWER OF TEN’ Summer Shows 2010 was one of them, so exciting and I am so pleased that all the work I have been doing with LCC (London College Of Communication) has been noticed and I am so happy for LCC. The project will be in the exhibition at the Design Museum from 16th February to 07th August 2011, my challenge now is to make sure the whole placemaking and sustainability side of the project gets across in the exhibit. We are now working on the 2011 shows and so exciting things to come with LCC.
Just seen a bit in the Guardian very exciting.

Wanda Jackson on radio 4 twice this morning, first on the TODAY programme, Radio 4 and then on Woman’s Hour ! she has been working with Jack White from The White Stripes and enjoying a big UK come back since performing an amazing show at my “Let It Rock” venue for Vintage at Goodwood last summer. I took these photos as Wanda headlined my stage on the Friday night, it was a pleasure and honour to work with both Wanda and her husband Wendell Goodman and to help them celebrate her recent induction to The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame which was championed by Elvis Costello. Wanda had once dated Elvis Presley, Wendell commented “Thats all I need, another Elvis in my life!”

I bought a new stylus for my old deck this week – first time in 10 years. So, inspired by a visit Morag and I paid to the British Music Experience at the O2 yesterday, I spent all this morning rifling through my singles enjoying them as much for the covers as the songs. It’s just not the same listening on iTunes or Spotify. I just love that crackle as the needle hits the plastic…

My uncle, Clarence Myerscough, in the 1950’s, around the time he won the ‘All England Violin Competition 1951′. I have always been told by my family that this was awarded as part of the ‘Festival of Britain’, so I always felt a connection with the festival.

This year is 60 years since the Festival of Britain, and last year I started looking into it and so this year I have become more obsessed. I managed to get quite a lot of info from the web but felt I needed some books and films to understand more so just bought up as many as I could from Amazon. One of my purchases did not have a description or a pic but as it was only £6, so I thought why not. When it arrived it was an original 1951 guide, it is amazing and the above is a quick animation of the ads in the order they appear in the front and back of the guide, thank you Amazon. I have some plans for this year in relation to this research.

Meanwhile SuperGroup’s Somerset outpost has been setting up Matt’s Kitchen, a super-cool little waste-free restaurant that offers just one – perfectly formed – meal a day; feeds anything left over to family and friends, and closes early if the food runs out. Bosh.

On Thursday we had another 12 hour power cut in Hoxton. It is amazing how much we depend on electricity and once the light of the day had gone, I lit loads of candles which seemed quite fun for about 5 mins. Desperate for external stimulation I even found my dad’s old wind-up radio which was great but ran out every five minutes, which became quite tiring and irritating. I think the hardest thing was not having enough light even to read it was just boring and so we gave up and went out for a drink.

I did venture out a couple of times and went to the Diaghilev exhibition at the V&A and could not believe the amount of people, it was absolutely packed and I must say not the best way to see an exhibition. But when I walked into the 3rd space of the exhibition, a great double height room, which on this occasion was used to it’s full potential, with these amazing shadow projections and two massive front cloths. Exhibition designed by Drinkall Dean.

I have spent the last week sitting in this chair painting patterns for hours on end with my new watercolour box and listening to the radio. I needed to get away from the computer and work on something very slowly, and this time of year was a great opportunity. Very rewarding but very very slow!
