Yesterday I did a headline talk at Futurising, it is the UK’s very first two day creative graduates festival promising a one-stop shop of opportunities and information for students and graduates from across the UK. It is Day 2, if you have time really worth going over there, great venue too.
As usual I was nervous but I hope the audience enjoyed it and got what they wanted from me in some way.
Congratulations to Marice Cumber, Festival Director, LCC.
Kerry the most amazing neon maker has been installing my type piece ‘Memory of Time’ at the Woolyard this week. I have waited over a year for this day to come, but it will be a little longer before it gets turned on!

Off to NLA tomorrow (Tuesday) to speak at a Design for London event as part of the London Festival of Architecture. Going to talk about a project I’ve been working on in The Royal Docks. This is Millennium Mills, the old Spillers factory. It’s HUGE, empty and a tiny part of the enormous space just East of Canary Wharf which is London’s next big development zone. One of the biggest enclosed, man-made stretches of water in the world. An amazing place.
Night Fever 2 box set publication by Frame. It is a three-in-one experience — Eat, Sleep and Drink. The Deptford Project is featured across 4 pages in the Drink book. Great publication worth getting.

Just found this picture on my phone of a beautiful neon that I saw in the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. It’s the sign from a cinema called Skarpa. In the 60s and 70s, Warsaw was awash with neon, at the urging of the government – they saw it as a way of making the city seem modern and forward thinking. Unfortunately, many of the signs were torn down after the end of Communist rule in a similar attempt to make the city seem modern. Now, some are being restored and put back. This one is in the museum’s temporary home – and old department store – until their new building opens in 2015.
Alicia Pivaro is curating the URBAN LOVE Pecha Kucha for the London Festival of Architecture. Luke and I are going to do a double act, should be fun!

Aram Gallery’s contribution to this year’s London Design Festival is going to be the first UK solo show for my friend, the Dutch designer Ineke Hans. We first worked together in 1998 when she was part of the first designersblock at The Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane – feels like last week. A version of the show opens in Arnhem next week so a chance to see it means advance publicity for London. That’s this week’s job.
We’re frantically getting everything ready for the opening of Maison Martin Margiela tonight. We’ve wrapped the rest of the trees on the Embankment, scattered the sequins, hung the fairy lights and pasted down the Tabi Boot prints leading people to the show. Looking forward to tonight – at least it’s stopped raining! Claire
