So I’m in splendid isolation in the North Yorkshire Moors
proof-reading text, the catch being that half of it’s in
Mandarin. And no, I don’t speak a word.
Am beginning to get the hang of checking that the
Mandarin that’s made it’s way into the exhibition
matches the Mandarin translation sent to us by our
translators. The trick is to resign yourself that it’s
going to take a full day to check a couple of thousand
words. Maybe half a day if you’ve had a glass of wine.
You can do it in an evening if you’ve had two or more
glasses of wine, but you have to do it all again next day.
The surreal shopping list has been thrown back at me by
the Shanghai contingent so have also had to procure coal
and fishing wire, both of which, to be fair, are rather
easier to come by in the hunting, shooting and fishing
heartlands of North Yorkshire than in the midst
of Shanghai.
